The interplay of mental intentions and intended physical changes. A state of relaxation, when breathing and heartbeat slow down, is usually accompanied by sensations such as heaviness and warmth, a pleasantly warm feeling in the abdominal area, and a cool forehead. By systematically repeating the visualization of these sensations using simple formulas, deep relaxation of the body can be deliberately induced. The training creates pathways in the nervous system through which we can always more easily "come to rest".
